Claudio Aprile is a Canadian chef, restaurateur, and television personality. He gained fame as one of the judges on the Canadian version of the reality cooking competition show “MasterChef Canada” since January 2014. He is known for his innovative and creative approach to cooking.

He was raised in Toronto, traveled extensively, and worked as a professional chef in multi-Michelin-starred restaurants across the world. He was born on 23 January 1969, in Uruguay. Having dreamed of becoming a chef since he was five years old, Aprile began cooking at the age of 14. He never received formal training for becoming a chef.

Over the years, he has worked and owned several Michelin-starred restaurants. He has also held positions as head chef, owner, and manager at several Toronto restaurants, including Copetin, Colborne Lane, the Origin chain, and Xango, which closed in 2023.

In 2009, Aprile opened the first Origin restaurant as the executive chef and owner.  In subsequent years, Aprile opened two more Origin restaurants, one in Liberty Village and one in Bayview Village. The Orderfire Restaurant Group, which included Toronto’s well-known Origin brand restaurants, was owned and creatively led by Aprile.

Using the same Saint James location on King Street East in Toronto, Aprile redesigned his original Origin restaurant space and launched Copetin Restaurant & Bar in June 2017.

Origin offers a unique dining experience with a fusion of Asian and Latin cuisines, reflecting Aprile’s innovative approach to cooking. The restaurant features a diverse menu with dishes inspired by global flavors, along with an extensive selection of cocktails and wines. Origin has received positive reviews for its creative dishes, stylish ambiance, and attentive service.
